In a bizarre twist of events, a player FROM the Saudi Pro League could transfer to ENGLAND, with Newcastle targeting this Shearer-endorsed midfielder.

The biggest news to circulate Newcastle United at the moment is the situation involving Sandro Tonali. In case you didn’t know or have been living under a rock, the Italian we signed in the summer is currently under investigation as it’s believed he’s committed betting breeches. If he is punished, it could be a suspension which he serves. Obviously, this is less than ideal for Eddie Howe.

While the club will side with Tonali and his family (and rightly so), it is an underlying reality that he may need to be replaced. Depending on the severity of the suspension, this may have to be via a transfer in the January window. Hopefully the suspension isn’t that long, but it’s something that Newcastle must consider.

Newcastle United could target Ruben Neves to replace Sandro Tonali

In this extreme case scenario, Newcastle could target Ruben Neves of Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal. The midfielder who jumped ship to Saudi Arabia in the summer has been endorsed by Alan Shearer already, as per Geordie Boot Boys.

Boasting Premier League experience, it makes sense that Ruben Neves is a potential target for Newcastle. Although, given his extremely comfortable wage in the Saudi Pro League, it remains to be seen whether he’d leave a life of luxury to take on the challenge of Champions League football in the North of England.

Neves is a technically-gifted midfielder. Known for his immense range of passing and long-range shooting ability, it makes sense that he’d be a like-for-like replacement in the starting eleven should Tonali become unavailable. In the worst case scenario, Neves could definitely soften the blow for Howe.

Do you think Newcastle will sign Ruben Neves?
