Various outlets have claimed that Newcastle were frontrunners to land Kalvin Phillips in the January transfer window. Certainly it would make sense, since he fits into the Eddie Howe mould for a midfielder.

However, the most trusted source Fabrizio Romano has silenced those claims, at least for now. Via his daily briefing, Romano claimed that there hadn’t been any contact between Newcastle and Man City/Kalvin Phillips’ representatives. Instead, the Magpies will base their January transfer plans based on how their Champions League group looks come then.

Newcastle transfer news – Interest accrues for Emile Smith Rowe of Arsenal

Earlier, The Top Flight claimed that Newcastle were interested in signing Emile Smith Rowe and that club officials would soon meet to discuss their transfer strategy to sign him.

For context, he’s struggling for game time, despite being a fan favourite at the Emirates Stadium. Therefore, a move to a Champions League competing club may be best for the youngster. However, he’s loved by Arsenal, so they will ask for around £60m to sign him.

According to reports in Spain (via Caught Offside), Newcastle are one of several Premier League clubs keeping tabs on Ousmane Dembele. It’s thought that alongside a new midfielder, Eddie Howe would like to add some more attacking firepower to his squad. Certainly, Dembele may be fond of the move after his team was embarrassed by the Magpies.
