Fabian Schar missed a big match in the 2022-23 season away at the Etihad Stadium. It was a match the Magpies lost, with Jamaal Lascelles taking Schar’s place in the starting XI due to the Swiss international being concussed before the game. Luckily, he only missed one match.

In a year which was bizarre for football due to the COVID-19 interval causing it to start late, Fabian Schar missed a large chunk of it. Three months of action for club and country was missed by the defender due to his knee injury. Eventually, he marked his return at the end of April of the same year, although he came off the bench against Arsenal to pick up a red card.

Certainly the year for illnesses, unfortunately Fabian Schar was on the receiving end of a bad one. The Newcastle defender was ruled out for a month towards the festive period due to a virus infection. Ultimately, he returned to action on boxing day 2020, losing to Man City by a scoreline of 2-0.

The 2019-20 season ended late due to COVID-19, with Fabian Schar feeling the effects of the interval by picking up a shoulder injury to end his season early. Heading into the 2020-21 season, the Swiss started it late, marking his return to action in the EFL Cup. Not a bad return to action, as he came off the bench against Newport to score in the penalty shootout.

It capped off a season plagued by injury.

Back when things were normal, Schar unfortunately missed three matches for Newcastle due to s strain in his thigh. Ultimately, he returned to the bench towards the end of the same month against Chelsea (but was unused in the win), before coming off the bench against Everton in the following match.
