The defense did their job yet again

Going up against PSG, Newcastle had to deal with the threat of Kylian Mbappé. Mbappe had an xG of 0.02 and only created three chances. The French winger also only took one shot and played six passes into the final third.

Jamaal Lascelles captained the Magpies and had a phenomenal day on defense. The captain had the most tackles of the game with three. Lascelles had one block, two clearances, and four recoveries. The skipper also won 75 percent of his ground duels and all of his aerial duels. A very strong night for the center-back.

You cannot forget about Fabian Schär. The Swedish international scored an amazing goal and also defend solidly. Schär had six cleareances and won all of his ground and aerial duels. Schär’s goal was one to remember, as he blasted a shot on the edge of the box.

Newcastle had one of their best performances in several years, in what was a game that will be remembered forever. The Magpies next play West Ham at London Stadium on Sunday.
