Newcastle United fan favourite Jacob Murphy has recently spoke out about how he was “gutted” to be dropped by manager Eddie Howe at the start of this season.

Newcastle United have really turned their season around. After starting in a poor fashion, Eddie Howe stuck with his plan and has picked up a valuable win streak. Well, there was a draw at the San Siro within that streak, but any side would take a point against Milan away from home.

One man who was certainly happy to be involved in that infamous San Siro fixture was fan favourite Jacob Murphy. The attacker who has been with Newcastle on and off for six years couldn’t hide his excitement as the famous Champions League tune blasted out loud. His face demonstrated what it meant for everybody involved with the Magpies.

But it’s not been smooth sailing for the Newcastle lad this season. Having only picked up two starts so far this season, he would have certainly hopes for more heading up to the campaign. Albeit, his two starts were in two of the best matches for the Magpies this season – against AC Milan in the Premier League and Manchester City in the Carabao Cup.

Jacob Murphy was “gutted” to be dropped for Newcastle

Speaking out on the situation, Murphy has revealed he was “gutted” not to play more often for Newcastle in the early stages of this season. Of course, the aim for any player is to get in the starting lineup, so it’s not nice to sit on the bench consistently.

But now that Jacob Murphy is getting his opportunity in cup competition, he could certainly make a case to Eddie Howe that he should be in the starting lineup.

Do you think Jacob Murphy has what it takes to be in the Newcastle starting eleven?
