CM: Bruno Guimaraes – 7/10

Had a quiet first half. Sometimes, though, not hearing much from your defensive midfielder is a good thing, especially in a game like this. Overall, though, Bruno put in a good shift. Some good clearances and accurate passing kept Newcastle in this game.

CM: Sean Longstaff – 7.5/10

Put in a great shift and dealt with the star-studded Milan midfield well. Longstaff had plenty of bright touches and helped out with the counter-attacking play.

CM: Sandro Tonali – 7/10

When in attack, the former AC Milan essentially played as an overlapping left-back. This was a smart tactic from Eddie Howe, as I don’t think he trusted the pace of Burn to recover when going forward.

Tonali was strong in possession and won a lot of midfield duels, which helped Newcastle. Ultimately, he was subbed off to a standing ovation from both sets of fans.

  • SUB: Elliot Anderson – 6/10. Newcastle runs through his veins so it was great to see the 20-year-old play his first Champions League match in black and white.
