RB: Kieran Trippier – 9/10

One of the best players on the pitch. His vast Champions League experience shone through as he inspired the other players, particularly those making their debut in the competition. A few great interceptions and some excellent overlapping from Trippier made him the standout performer for my Newcastle player ratings.

CB: Fabian Schar – 7.5/10

Schar was terrific out there tonight and was key to the clean sheet for the Magpies. He dealt with Rafael Leao on a few occasions and had a LOT of work to do. A great point well earned from Schar.

CB: Sven Botman – 7/10

I didn’t know this heading into the match, but he identically matches the AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud for height. This made the aerial duels between Giroud and Botman interesting, and it was a smart tactical play from Howe. Botman’s height and physical presence could’ve been the difference in this match.

LB: Dan Burn – 7/10

I know the decision to play Burn as a full-back is controversial but, dare I say it… I think it worked today. He wasn’t good in the attacking half, but that’s expected. In a defensive game for Newcastle, the presence of Burn was much appreciated
