Leicester’s Harvey Barnes nearing move to Newcastle United
By Cade Cracas
Just weeks ago it was reported that Newcastle United and Leicester City were in talks to move Harvey Barnes to St. James Park to bolster the newly qualified Champions League side.
Newcastle United are hopeful to see the deal continue to evolve in the coming days as they attempt to bring the asking price down. Recent reports suggest that Leicester is holding out in hopes that they can receive an offer of £35 million or more.
“We are in the process of talking and negotiating,” said Newcastle’s Manager Eddie Howe when asked what was going on with the Barnes rumors.
So, now that Howe has confirmed what many have been thinking, its a good idea to believe a deal will be reached in due time.
The Magpies this time are sure to be on their horse to reach a deal as they barely missed out on former Leicester City midfielder James Maddison, who was transferred to Tottenham Hotspur just earlier in the summer window.
The acquisition of Barnes is one that could heavily impact the club as they get ready to play in the Champions League in the 2023-24 campaign. With such high-intensity competition coming soon, the Magpies will need to be at their best when it comes to depth and Barnes offers that.
The Frenchman scored 13 goals in the previous season to go alongside three assists. His play has drastically helped the Foxes stay relatively afloat in the Premier League before they were relegated.
However, the relegation helps Newcastle when it comes time to agree to a deal.
His worth currently sits in the £30-40 million range, which is something that the Magpies can easily reach. They were rumored to have over £250 million heading into the summer transfer window, and have already reached deals with a multitude of players.
One of which is Sandro Tonali from AC Milan, showcasing that the club is willing to fix the holes and bring in players that help Howe’s situation.
In the coming weeks, it looks like a deal is set to be made between Barnes and the side that calls St. James Park home.
