Newcastle United and Christian Pulisic are a perfect match
By Cade Cracas
Mexico stood no chance as Newcastle United’s latest target, Christian Pulisic, dominated in the United States’ 3-0 win on Thursday, June 15.
As the summer continues to roll on, and the transfer window continues to brew closer, the Magpies continue to watch and see as their target shines in international play. Throughout the 2022-23 season, it was rumored that Newcastle was in the running for the young American star, but recently, those talks have ramped up.
In all fairness, Christian Pulisic has almost certainly played his last game for the Premier League side Chelsea. The 24-year-old winger was drastically underutilized throughout this past season as the team gave him a measly 1,012 minutes.
For a player of his magnitude and skill, that is abysmal.
Not only did the Blues rarely give him the opportunity to shine, but when they did, he was playing in his secondary position. That combined with little playing time set him up for little to no success.
However, when given the right pieces around him and the proper time on the pitch, he is world-class.
Just a few days ago with the United States national team, Pulisic was phenomenal. In the 3-0 win over Mexico, he contributed two goals in the first half to secure momentum for the red, white and blue.
Throughout his time with the national team, he has been regarded as a prominent leader both on the pitch and off. His contributions would help the Magpies as they look for the opportunity to compete in the Champions League for the 2023-24 season.
As they gear up to play in the group stage next season for the first time since 2002-03, Manager Eddie Howe will need to make sure he builds a consistent, day-in-and-day-out squad that can compete with some of the best teams in the world.
One of those pieces to that team could be Pulisic.
If they were to sign him, Newcastle would gain a player that has knowledge of European League play, something that Howe’s squad lacks. Not only with Chelsea but with his former club Borussia Dortmund.
Howe’s current locker room is also built on being flexible and available, but also on a commitment to the team. This past season the Toon Army got a glimpse of that dedication through the current squad, and Pulisic would be a perfect edition.
With Chelsea currently looking for roughly £20 million for him, Newcastle’s budget is well-equipped to handle his fee.
Recent reports have suggested that Newcastle has in fact decided to go into the race for him and as the summer window approaches, they may start to enter a bidding war with opposing Premier League sides.
