Newcastle United’s starting XI for upcoming Chelsea contest
By Cade Cracas
As Newcastle United prepares for the season finale against Chelsea, the starting XIs for these two squads should be fresh and ready to go to leave it all on the line.
The two sides will go up against each other on Sunday, May 28 at 4:30 p.m. at the legendary Stamford Bridge stadium, which the Blues call home.
Heading into Sunday’s contest, Newcastle United is still looking to finish the season with an official placement in the Premier League table. They currently sit in fourth place, but a win and a Manchester United loss or draw would give them a third-place position.
However, even with that potential accomplishment in the minds of the Magpies, the club has already clinched an appearance in the Champions League for the 2023-24 season.
On the contrary, the Blues have quite frankly had one of their most disappointing seasons in recent years. After their season finale, Chelsea could have the chance to finish as low as 14th place in the table, despite the club spending an exponential amount of money to build this season’s squad.
Well, with both teams looking to finish the season strong, what will the starting lineups look like?
Newcastle United:
ST: Wilson
RW: Murphy
LW: Isak
CM: Anderson
CM: Guimaraes
CM: Longstaff
LB: Burn
CB: Botman
CB: Schar
GK: Dubravka
Well, this is surely to be an interesting contest for Newcastle United as the team is without countless notable faces. Starting goalkeeper Nick Pope, midfielders Joelinton and Joe Willock will be inactive for the final contest of the season.
Surely, the Magpies will be taking a keynote on the play of backup keeper Martin Dubravka, who was the starter against Manchester United earlier in the season in the Carabao Cup Final.
Chelsea:
ST: Felix
LW: Madueke
CM: Fernandez
CM: Loftus-Cheek
CM: Gallagher
LB: Azpilicueta
CB: Silva
CB: Chalobah
RB: Hall
GK: Kepa
While the starting lineup surely showcases an incredible amount of role players, Chelsea has been dealing with countless injuries and inactive for the majority of the season. As of now, they will be without Armando Broja, Reece James, N’Golo Kante and Marcus Bettinelli as key notables.
Other Blues, Mount and Chilwell, are questionable heading into Sunday’s contest.
