Newcastle United takes down Tottenham Spurs with ease, 6-1
By Cade Cracas
One word that described my reaction to today’s contest between Newcastle United and the Tottenham Spurs: Wow.
On Sunday, April 23, the Magpies and Spurs went toe-to-toe in an exciting bout that would be detrimental to both teams’ Premier League table placements down the stretch of the 2022-23 season.
For Newcastle United, it could not have gone much better to start as the team became the second fastest side to go 5-0 up in a Premier League match in history.
They received those five goals from Jacob Murphy, Alexander Isak and Joelinton through the opening 21 minutes. Murphy scored two, one in the second minute and the other in the ninth minute, while Isak scored two as well. His came in the 19th and 21st minute, within two minutes of one another.
Murphy was able to find the opening goal for the Magpies after a shot from Joelinton was deflected by Spurs goalkeeper Lloris and he was in the perfect spot to blast it into the back of the net.
The two for Isak would be his 10th and 11th on the season, continuing his prowess in the Premier League.
After the opening goal, Newcastle continued to put the pedal to the metal, running the field with ease. The offense just flew up and down the sidelines as perfect ball after perfect ball was touched nicely into the back netting, no matter who was involved in the play.
After the opening five goals, no one would find another until the second half.
Spurs star forward Harry Kane cut the lead down to four for Spurs shortly after the start of the second 45 minutes. Unfortunately, even with that goal, the team was unable to find another as they continued to backpedal as Newcastle never let up their aggression.
The Magpies utilized plenty of substitutions with the large lead they had, one of which was forward Callum Wilson. Wilson came off the bench and in the 67th minute added a goal to continue his match-scoring run on his first touch of the game, solidifying the 6-1 win.
That goal for Wilson marked his fourth in the last five games, for his 11th on the season. The forward duo of Wilson and Isak now has 22 total on the season.
The win also keeps Newcastle United in a comfortable third-place spot in the Premier League table. The Magpies now have the tie-breaker over both Manchester United, who sits in fourth, and Tottenham who sits in fifth.
They now sit with an overall record of 16-11-4 on the season with 59 total points.

Well, the question remains on whether they can keep themselves atop of the league table in hopes of a Champions League spot for next season. What do you think?
