Newcastle United cannot stop winning as they down West Ham 5-1
By Cade Cracas
Well well well, the Magpies just keep on winning, and it does not seem like they are looking to stop anytime soon.
After taking down Manchester United over the weekend in dominating fashion, Newcastle United one-upped themselves with a breathtaking display against West Ham.
To start the contest, West Ham came up just short of finding a goal on the opening possession, already putting the pressure on the red-hot Magpies.
West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen smashed the ball into the box, just barely crossing the ball into a crowded box. Luckily for Newcastle, Joelinton was there to get the ball away.
Just six minutes later, Newcastle won a corner that came across the face of the goal. Winger Allan Saint-Maximin received the corner cross and sent a perfect ball to the head of forward Callum Wilson who scored the opening goal.
Now with the score 1-0, West Ham would have to play catch-up.
Just seven minutes later, West Ham would in fact not play catch-up and put themselves down another goal. Newcastle midfielder Joelinton made an impressive run across the middle and slotted the ball past the goalkeeper. Initially, it was ruled as offsides, but after a VAR review, the goal was given.
West Ham’s Kurt Zouma got the team back within a goal heading into halftime as he scored in the 40th minute.
Coming out of the half, that one-goal lead would be pushed to two, as Newcastle scored within the first 24 seconds.
West Ham misplaced the ball on the edge of the penalty box, with Wilson capitalizing on it and finding his second goal of the game from six yards out. Now with the lead sitting at 3-1, hope for West Ham started to dwindle down.
In the 82nd minute, the fourth goal would be scored for Newcastle as West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski was caught well off his line. With not much room for error, forward Alexander Isak, who has been hot all season long, slotted the ball just over the top of Fabianski for his first and only goal of the contest.
That goal would be Isak’s seventh on the season as he continues to impress in recent contests.
Now with the game officially put to bed, West Ham practically gave up as they were caught sleeping once more, as Newcastle’s Joelinton found his second goal of the game, ending the outing with a 5-1 win for the Magpies.
The blowout win for Newcastle keeps them in third place in the Premier League, with a total of 53 points, three ahead of fifth place. The team’s overall record now sits at 14-11-3, with nine games remaining.
