Newcastle United is gearing up for one of the team’s most important contests in recent weeks.

While you may be able to make an argument that the Carabao Cup Final was important, or Newcastle’s revenge game against Liverpool was, the team has struggled recently and is in need of a confidence boost. That’s why they cannot afford to take a loss to Wolves.

The team has currently had its fair share of struggles and bumps in the road while losing their last three games, and having not one a Premier League contest since they took on Fulham in early January.

Since the team’s struggles have emerged, they’ve slipped from third place in the league down to sixth, just two points ahead of seventh.

On the contrary, Wolves have won two games, lost two and drawn one in their last five outings, proving that while things haven’t gone their way this season, they can still find wins when need be. A win for them would also help them move up eight points from relegation.

What would a loss do to Newcastle United?

If Newcastle were to fall to Wolves, with how packed the top 10 of the Premier League table is, they would have the chance to fall all the way down to ninth place.

For a team that was sitting in fourth at the beginning of February, that would be a fast and far fall from grace.

However, while the top of the table is loaded with high-caliber teams, outside of Chelsea in 10th and Aston Villa in 11th, the 12th-place teams and beyond have below 30 points. In order for Newcastle to fall that far, it would have to be a complete implosion of what they’ve built up this season.

A loss would also not only drop them in the table but would most certainly put the team in a stressful spot. After this contest against Wolves, Newcastle has themselves a struggling Nottingham Forest and a red-hot Manchester United squad.

In order to have a shot at taking down Man United, whom the team fell to in the Carabao Cup Final, the team will need to have a winning streak going after the Wolves and Nottingham Forest contests.

Newcastle United has also not lost four games in a row since 2021, marking a two-year period since such struggles.

What should you expect when Wolves and Newcastle United take on one another?

This contest means a lot for Newcastle United, with the implications being drastic to the team’s overall future success.

14 of the last 15 contests between these two squads have seen both teams score a goal. This season in league play, however, Wolves have scored just 19 goals while giving up 35. In comparison, the Magpies have scored 35 and given up 17.

If the stats continue to remain consistent and true, Newcastle should be able to pull off the victory, and I’ve got the scoreline sitting at 2-1 in favor of the Magpies
