Newcastle United has found itself in the headlines for an awfully long time due to the team’s need to improve. The most recent headlines have seen the team targeting AC Milan star forward Rafael Leao.
The 23-year-old would instantly bolster the production for the Newcastle United attacking group that has been lackluster in recent contests.
The AC Milan star is set to enter the final year of his contract with the team in 2023, and Leao’s agent has been busy looking around for the next stop in his blossoming career.
Recent reports have come out stating that Leao has been “offered” to numerous top-of-the-line clubs such as Premier League’s Newcastle United, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Serie-A’s Paris St Germain.
Currently, those four teams would have the funds to send an offer to AC Milan for the young star, but it may come down to who is willing to pay more.
His current market value sits at roughly €85 million, with the possibility of his worth reaching €95-100 million if high-end teams are interested in him.
In the 2021-2022 season, Leao scored 11 goals and passed off eight assists in league play, while also tacking on three goals in tournament action. This year, he has continued with that consistent play and through 23 matches he’s scored eight goals and dished off six assists in league play.
Primarily, he plays as a left winger which would drastically help out the struggling attacking group for Newcastle. This would result in the team having to move on from current winger Allan Saint-Maximin.
To compare the two, looking at full career stats is important. Saint-Maximin has scored 28 goals and dished off 32 assists since the 2013-2014 season, while Leao has scored 45 goals and gotten 32 assists since the 2017-2018 season.
The assisting abilities as well are extremely important as it could grow the production for others up top of the team.
With those stats being known, Leao would be a clear upgrade that Newcastle United should not pass up on.
