Newcastle United’s quest to improve their squad this summer has not gone as smoothly as they would have hoped. The start was extremely bright, as the Magpies brought in Sven Botman from Lille and Nick Pope from Burnley, while also signing Matt Targett permanently, after his impressive loan spell from Aston Villa. Since then though, things have stagnated.

Newcastle United had appeared to be closing in on Hugo Ekitike but that failed to transpire as the Frenchman joined PSG instead. On the other hand, links with players like Moussa Diaby, Jack Harrison, Anthony Gordon, and several others have led nowhere.

There is no need to panic as Newcastle United already have a solid squad. But, as the game against Brighton & Hove Albion showed, if they are to compete for the European qualification spots, they need a bit more quality in the midfield and forward areas. And it looks like the Magpies have their eyes on players from Chelsea in particular.

As reported by The Telegraph (via Sport Bible), Newcastle United are interested in four Chelsea players and are said to have asked to be kept informed about the quartet. They are Conor Gallagher, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Christian Pulisic and Armando Broja.

It is safe to say that there are a lot of quality players at Chelsea, who might not be getting many chances at Stamford Bridge, but could do a job for Eddie Howe’s side, if they make the move to St James’ Park, either on loan or on a permanent basis.

Out of those four, Hudson-Odoi seems to be the most likely to leave Chelsea this summer. He is believed to have asked to be allowed to go out on loan in search of first-team football.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for him, and Newcastle United as well.
