Newcastle United have had a tough time getting deals done in recent weeks, after having made a blistering start to the summer transfer window, which had seen them bring in players like Sven Botman from Lille and Nick Pope from Burnley, and turning Matt Targett’s loan deal from Aston Villa permanent.

The club have been linked with a long list of strikers and wingers, but have not been able to make any signings till now.

It is believed that they recently had a couple of transfer bids rejected for Leicester City’s James Maddison. And now, it looks like they have had a bid for another player rejected as well, as their struggles compound.

As reported by Sky Sports, Watford have rejected a £20 million bid from Newcastle United for Joao Pedro. The Hornets do not seem to be keen on parting ways with the Brazilian forward.

Newcastle United have had transfer bid rejected by Watford

Pedro is one of the most highly-rated players at Watford right now, capable of playing through the centre as well as a left winger.

He did not have a great 2021/22 campaign though, as the Hornets got relegated from the Premier League. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 4 goals and provided 1 assist in 29 appearances across all competitions for Watford.

He is just 20 years of age though and played for a Watford team that struggled throughout the course of the season.

His current deal with the Hornets runs till the summer of 2025, and he is seen as a key piece of the puzzle, if they are to win promotion back to the Premier League.

On the other hand, while there is no question about Pedro’s potential, it is hard to see him make an immediate impact for Newcastle United, if he did end up moving to St James’ Park.
