The situation is far from ideal at Newcastle United right now, as the Magpies have faced a struggle in getting deals over the line and bringing new players to St James’ Park in recent times. The club did a great job in strengthening their defence but have not had the same luck when it comes to their forward areas.

They have been linked with a number of strikers and wingers in recent times but have not been able to complete any signing till now. It remains to be seen if the situation changes.

Not a lot of time is left in the summer transfer window though, and as the deadline comes closer, Newcastle United will be expected to get more desperate in their attempt to strengthen up top. And other clubs will know that as well.

As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle United are pushing to sign João Pedro from Watford and a new proposal is expected ‘soon’. A first bid was rejected by the Hornets. It is believed that it was a transfer fee around £20 million plus £3 million in add-ons.

It is safe to say that Newcastle United need to bring in more options in their forward areas. But at the same time, it is also important to make sure that they bring in the right players as well.

Pedro is very highly rated but at the same time, it is hard to see how he will come in and immediately make Eddie Howe’s side better.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 3 goals and provided 1 assist in 28 Premier League appearances for Watford last season.

Thus, despite the Brazilian’s undeniable talent, it does not feel like the 20-year-old is ready to be a big contributor for a club with aspirations of qualifying for European competitions.
