Newcastle United have been chasing a striker for a while now. At one point of time, it was looking like Hugo Ekitike was going to be the man that they bring to St James’ Park this summer in order to solve their problems up top. That has not worked out though and the French youngster has ended up joining PSG instead.

Then, the Magpies were also linked with moves for players like Alexander Isak, Timo Werner, Armando Broja and quite a few others, but none of those rumours have led to anywhere of substance till now.

Now, it looks like the club have their eyes set on another striker though and that is Goncalo Ramos of Benfica.

As reported by The Northern Echo, Newcastle United are unconcerned with the reports linking PSG with Ramos and are set to press ahead with their pursuit of the Benfica forward. They are prepared to pay a transfer fee around €30 million for him.

It is safe to say that Ramos has stepped up his game since the departure of Darwin Nunez from Benfica and taken up the goalscoring mantle for the Portuguese club.

He might not remain there for much longer either though as it is believed that they are ready to let Ramos leave for the right offer this summer.

It remains to be seen if Newcastle United are able to sign him but if they are, he could be a good signing for sure.

He has been on top form this season till now. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Ramos has scored 4 goals and provided 3 assists in 4 appearances for Benfica in the 2022/23 campaign, having played 277 minutes of football.

His versatility could be a huge bonus for the Magpies as well, as Ramos can not only play as the man up top but also as a second striker as well as an attacking midfielder.
