Newcastle United started their Premier League campaign in brilliant fashion with a 2-0 win over a resolute Nottingham Forest side at St James’ Park. There were quite a few people who had raised questions about whether the Magpies were actually a good team or they had just found a bit of form in the second half of last season. Eddie Howe’s side showed that they were very much the real deal.

Their next game is much tougher though, as Newcastle United will travel away from home to take on Brighton & Hove Albion.

Graham Potter’s side will surely be confident of their own chances as well, as they are coming off of a 2-1 win against Manchester United at Old Trafford, in their first game of the Premier League season and they looked very good on that day performance-wise as well.

Thus, this could prove to be a tight game between two very good sides. Unfortunately though, it looks like Nick Pope is a doubt for the match. Keith Downie tweeted out:

Newcastle United suffer late scare as star is a doubt vs Brighton & Hove Albion

Pope was signed this summer from Burnley, after the Clarets got relegated from the Premier League last season. He is one of the best goalkeepers in England and is expected to be a part of the World Cup squad later this year.

Thus, Pope missing the game against Brighton & Hove Albion is a worry for Howe’s side without a shadow of a doubt but at the same time, they have some able back up to cover as well.

Martin Dubravka did a tremendous job in the second half of last season between the posts and as a result, the Magpies should be confident if he is the one with the gloves in the game this weekend.

The situation of Pope is unclear though and we can only hope that it is nothing serious.
