Newcastle United seem to be on the lookout for a striker right now. It had looked like they were close to signing Hugo Ekitike from Stade de Reims earlier in the summer but that failed to materialise and he has ended up joining PSG instead. But recently, the Magpies have been linked with another striker currently playing in Ligue 1.

That player is none other than Bamba Dieng of Marseille, who is 22 years of age and showed a lot of promise last season, but is expected to be on his way out this summer.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 7 goals and provided 3 assists in 25 Ligue 1 appearances for Marseille last season while featuring for 972 minutes of football. That means he was averaging a goal contribution less than every 100 minutes!

As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Dieng will leave Marseille soon and the transfer fee will be around €15 million, with more than two Premier League clubs keen on signing him:

Newcastle United have chance to sign Marseille striker for bargain fee

Considering the amount of promise that the Senegal international showed at Marseille last season, a transfer fee around €15 million has to be considered as a bit of a bargain.

Newcastle United have been linked with a move for him in recent times. Now, it remains to be seen if they end up making a concrete offer for him or not.

Newcastle United have Callum Wilson and Chris Wood in their ranks right now, and both of them struggled to find the back of the net on a consistent basis last season.

It must be pointed out though that Wilson spent the majority of the second half of the season out injured and as a result, did not really get to play much football when Newcastle United hit form. Thus, there is a possibility that he could improve drastically this season.
