Most of the rumours surrounding Newcastle United in recent times have been about strikers and wingers. And it is true that the Magpies need to make some additions further up the pitch if they are to challenge for the top seven of the Premier League this season. At the same time though, it is good to see the club being linked with a player who is not a striker or winger.

Tanguy Ndombele was expected to be a big star for Tottenham Hotspur when he arrived at the club and was considered as a major coup for them. It is safe to say that things have not turned out as they would have hoped for though.

Ndombele ended up spending time out on loan at Lyon last season and could very well be on the move this summer, as first-team chances for him do seem slim.

As reported by Media Foot, Ndombele does not have a lack of suitors for his signature and Newcastle United is in pole position. And Villarreal are also being linked with the midfielder.

Newcastle United might be in pole position to sign midfielder from Tottenham Hotspur

Signing Ndombele could be an interesting move on the part of Newcastle United for sure. On one hand, we have already seen him struggle in the Premier League and thus, there is clearly quite a bit of risk involved in signing him.

But on the other hand, there is very little question about his talent or potential and someone like Eddie Howe could potentially get the best out of the midfielder. Also, he is still just 25 years of age and could very well be able to find his feet in the Premier League.

It remains to be seen if Newcastle United do actually end up making a move for Ndombele or not this summer.
