It seems like Newcastle United’s search for a striker knows no end. The Magpies have already suffered multiple transfer blows and it looks like another one has been added to that quickly growing list. The club were linked with Hugo Ekitike, who has joined PSG, Timo Werner, who has returned to RB Leipzig, and the likes of Alexander Isak and Armando Broja look set to remain where they are.

Another player that Newcastle United were believed to hold an interest in is Atalanta’s Colombian striker, Luis Muriel.

Muriel has been in tremendous form ever since joining Atalanta and despite being 31 years of age, he seems to be a man in demand. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 59 goals and provided 22 assists in 128 appearances for the Italian club till now.

But as reported by Alfredo Pedulla, Muriel will not go to Newcastle United. He knows that he is on Juventus’ list, but is waiting for further developments and he has no plans for a future at St James’ Park.

Muriel has made Newcastle United transfer decision

It is safe to say that the situation is far from ideal for Newcastle United, who seem to have suffered another major blow in their chase to sign a striker this summer.

It will be very interesting to see where things go from here. Recently, they have been linked with a move for Marseille striker, Bamba Dieng.

There have been plenty of players that Newcastle United have been linked with though, but for one reason or another, a move has not transpired till now.

Muriel could have been a solid signing for Newcastle United, even if on a short-term basis as he is 31 years of age. The Colombian has been a success in both Serie A and in the Champions League during his time at Atalanta. But a move to St James’ Park does not appear to be on the cards.
