Newcastle United have been linked with a long list of players in recent weeks, but have not been able to bring them to St James’ Park. The club had made a solid start this summer by signing Matt Targett on a permanent deal from Aston Villa, after his brilliant loan spell, and also brought in Nick Pope from Burnley and Sven Botman from Lille.

Since then, things have gotten much tougher for Newcastle United, as they have struggled to get deals over the line.

One player that they have been linked with recently is Leicester City’s James Maddison. It goes without saying that he could be a fantastic signing for the Magpies, but they are believed to have already had two transfer bids turned down by the Foxes. On top of that, Chelsea’s plans might be a worry for Eddie Howe’s side.

As reported by football.london, Chelsea are preparing another bid for Leicester City centre-back Wesley Fofana, with the world record bid for a defender expected to go in later this week.

While nothing has materialised yet, rumours doing the rounds in the media suggest that Fofana is interested in a move to Chelsea and if a world record bid does arrive at Leicester City’s table, it is hard to see them turning it down.

That could potentially end all hopes that Newcastle United have of signing Maddison this summer, as one would not expect Leicester City to let go of two of their star players in the same transfer window.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Maddison scored 18 goals and provided 12 assists in 53 appearances last season.

It is a bit surprising that Maddison has not been linked with more clubs this summer. Now, it remains to be seen if he does end up departing Leicester City or not.
