James Maddison is one of the latest names to be linked with a move to Newcastle United recently. Their first transfer bid for the Leicester City star came almost out of the blue, as there were no real rumours indicating it before the news broke out. Since then, it is believed that the Magpies have made another offer for the English midfielder as well, but neither has managed to meet the Foxes’ valuation of the player.

One major worry for Newcastle United in any chase for Maddison could be the fact that Chelsea appear to be pushing to sign Wesley Fofana from Leicester City.

And if that ends up happening, it is hard to imagine that the Foxes would let two of their star players go in the same window.

Amidst all this, Brendan Rodgers has spoken about the situation and Maddison’s commitment to Leicester City’s cause, which he believes is 100%. As reported by Chronicle Live, when asked prior to their game against Brentford, the manager said:

"“Yes 100%. I think it’s always a challenging time until the window shuts.”"

Someone like Maddison could be a terrific signing for Newcastle United. He is coming off of a tremendous 2021/22 campaign.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 18 goals and provided 12 assists in 53 appearances for Leicester City across all competitions last season.

In fact, it is a bit of a surprise that he has not been linked with a move away more heavily, especially considering the fact that he has been linked with a number of the traditional big six in previous summer transfer windows.

It is believed that Leicester City would look for a transfer window around £60 million if they are to part ways with Maddison this summer. While that is a steep figure, it is also not hard to understand why the Foxes would want something around that, especially in the modern transfer market.
