Newcastle United make surprise James Maddison decision
Newcastle United have been heavily linked with a move for James Maddison in recent weeks. Normally, there is a lot of speculation around the Leicester City star, who has often been linked with top six clubs over the years. But this time around, that does not seem to be the case. The Magpies have appeared to be the most interested team instead.
That is a bit surprising to be honest since Maddison enjoyed a very good individual 2021/22 campaign, despite Leicester City struggling as a team.
In fact, Newcastle United are believed to have already submitted a couple of transfer bids for Maddison but they have been turned down by Leicester City. There is a feeling though that the Foxes might be open to letting the midfielder go if they receive the right offer.
But surprisingly, the Magpies might not return a third time. As reported by 90min, Newcastle United are set to move on from Maddison. It is believed that they are already progressing with other targets.
Newcastle United have made surprising Maddison transfer decision
It is believed that Leicester City are looking for a transfer fee around £60 million in order to part ways with Maddison.
While that is a steep figure, in many ways, that is fair as well in the current transfer market. It is just a few days ago that we saw Chelsea shell out a transfer fee over £55 million in order to sign Marc Cucurella from Brighton & Hove Albion, after just one good season in the Premier League.
On the other hand, Maddison has been one of Leicester City’s top players for years now and has been a regular contributor with both goals and assists for the Foxes.
Now, it remains to be seen who Newcastle United end up targeting next though, as it appears their pursuit of Maddison might be over.
