Most of the focus at Newcastle United has seemed to be on strengthening their options going forward in recent weeks. When it comes to their backline, the Magpies have done some solid transfer business over the past couple of windows. They signed Kieran Trippier and Dan Burn in January. And they have added Matt Targett and Sven Botman on a permanent basis this summer.

But surprisingly, it looks like the Magpies could still be looking to bring in another left-back, despite turning Targett’s loan deal from Aston Villa permanent, after a promising spell last season.

This had been the case earlier on in the window as well, and thus, their is a feeling that Newcastle United might potentially be looking to provide some competition to Targett at left-back.

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Adria Pedrosa of Espanyol is on the radar of Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion. His current deal runs out in the summer of 2023.

As a signing, Pedrosa could be a solid one. He is just 24 years of age but has impressed for Espanyol. Also, with just a year left on his current deal, there is a potential that he could be available for a bargain fee this summer.

At the same time though, it would be quite a bit of a surprise if Newcastle United decided to go after another left-back at this point of time, before adding to their options further up the pitch at striker and on the wings. Let’s see how things turn out over the coming weeks.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Pedrosa made 33 appearances for Espanyol last season across all competitions, scoring and assisting twice each.

While he could be a solid addition to Eddie Howe’s squad, one has to question whether he is a signing that the club need to make considering the current circumstances.
