Newcastle United transfer blow as target looks set to stay
Newcastle United have been linked with a long list of forwards in recent weeks, without much success, as the Magpies find themselves in need of strengthening up front. The club saw both Callum Wilson and Chris Wood struggle in front of goal last season. If they are to challenge for the European qualification spots this time around, they will need someone to find the back of the net consistently though.
Unfortunately for Newcastle United, they have struggled to get a deal done for a striker this summer. And it looks like their struggles are set to continue.
One of the players that they had been linked with recently is Armando Broja of Chelsea, who was being heavily rumoured with a move away from Stamford Bridge in search of first-team football.
But now, as reported by The Guardian, Chelsea look increasingly likely to keep Broja. He could be given an opportunity to establish himself in Thomas Tuchel’s squad.
Newcastle United handed another blow in their search for a striker
Broja spent the previous campaign on loan at Southampton and while he did not score a lot of goals, he did show a number of attributes and qualities which could see him become a major success in the Premier League in the future. One has to remember that he is still just 20 years of age.
His current deal with Chelsea runs till the summer of 2026 and as a result, the club will be under no real pressure to let him go this summer unless the player decides to push for an exit. With the lack of attackers in the Blues’ current squad though, he might have an opportunity to nail down a spot in the team.
Someone like Broja could have been a solid signing for Newcastle United, but now, it looks like their search for a new striker will continue.
