Newcastle United have opened talks for Chelsea winger

Newcastle United had been heavily linked with a potential move for Timo Werner recently. The German international striker has struggled since arriving at Chelsea and could very well be on his way out of the club this summer. But now, it looks like he will not be heading to St James’ Park, as a move back to RB Leipzig looks much more likely.

Werner was considered one of the best strikers in the world during his time at RB Leipzig and he had even scored 28 goals in a single Bundesliga campaign, before his move to Chelsea.

Thus, it is not hard to see why he might prefer a move back to Germany over staying in the Premier League, where he has struggled to make his mark in the previous two seasons and seems to have lost his confidence.

But while a move for Werner might be off the table, Newcastle United seem to have another Chelsea player in their sights as well and that is none other than highly-rated winger, Callum Hudson-Odoi.

As tweeted out by Rob Pratley, Newcastle United have formally started talks with Chelsea over a potential signing of Hudson-Odoi:

Hudson-Odoi had been one of the most highly rated talents in the world when he first broke into the Chelsea first team during the 2018/19 season under the management of Maurizio Sarri. But after suffering a serious injury, he has never quite managed to recover that early career form.

Now, it remains to be seen if Chelsea are ready to let him leave. While it might feel like he has been around for years, in reality, he is still just 21 years of age.

Thus, if Newcastle United are able to sign Hudson-Odoi, he could prove to be an excellent signing for the club. Of course, he will need to finally fulfil the world-class potential he had shown early on in his career.
