After making a splendid start to the summer transfer window, when they signed Matt Targett, Nick Pope and Sven Botman permanently, Newcastle United have been going through a rough patch in recent weeks. They have struggled to get deals over the line. They had looked close to the signing of Hugo Ekitike from Stade Reims but he has ended up at PSG instead. And now, it looks like another of their targets, is headed to Chelsea.

The player in question is Carney Chukwuemeka of Aston Villa. The 18-year-old has been a standout at the youth levels for both his club and England.

But with his current deal running out next summer, Aston Villa had very little choice but to let him leave. Several clubs including Newcastle United were linked with the youngster but ultimately, it is Chelsea who appear to have won the race for his signature.

As reported by Chelsea’s official website, the clubs have reached an agreement for the permanent transfer of Carney Chukwuemeka. The 18-year-old has been given permission to travel to London to discuss both personal terms and undergo a medical. As reported by Sky Sports, the fee is in the region of £20 million.

While that is a huge fee to pay for someone who is still just 18 years of age, Chukwuemeka does look like a player who is very much worth taking a risk on.

Not only has he been excellent at the youth levels but he has already played quite a bit of football for Aston Villa at the senior level as well and has not looked out of place at all.

He has all the attributes required to be a top star in the Premier League in the future and Chelsea might have pulled off a great move here.
