Newcastle United are searching for a striker right now. That is not a secret and the Magpies have been linked with a number of forwards in recent times. They saw both Callum Wilson and Chris Wood struggle in front of goal last season, and will know that they will need a reliable goalscorer this time, if they are to improve upon their 11th place finish in the Premier League.

Thus, it should not come as a surprise that Newcastle United have been linked with a long list of strikers, although with the amount of rumours floating around, it is hard to distinguish fact from fiction at the moment.

One very interesting name which appeared to be on Newcastle United’s radar is that of Italian international striker, Andrea Belotti, who is a free agent this summer after leaving Torino.

But as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, AS Roma are one step away from Belotti, who has given his approval to the move. The club might need to let go of some players before they can complete the signing though.

It is not hard to understand why Newcastle United might have been interested in a player like Belotti. He has been a consistent goalscorer for years now and is a leader as well, who also has experience at the international level. On top of everything else, he is also available as a free agent in the middle of his prime as a footballer.

But AS Roma might potentially be a more attractive option for Belotti at this point of time, as Mourinho’s side could be gearing up for a title challenge after strengthening over the summer. They just recently signed Paulo Dybala.

A deal is not over the line yet and let’s see if it ends up happening. But it does look like Newcastle United’s search for a striker will continue for the time being.
