Newcastle United enter advanced talks to sign Chelsea star
Newcastle United’s search for a striker this summer has been a frustrating one for both the club and the fans. It had looked like they were close to getting a deal done for highly rated French wonderkid, Hugo Ekitike, but that failed to materialise and he ended up at PSG. Since then, a number of others have been linked with a move to St James’ Park as well, but nothing has transpired till now.
It is safe to say that the situation is far from perfect for the club, as we close in on the new season but it does look like they the signing of a new striker might be closer than initially believed.
As reported by the Mirror, Newcastle United have entered advanced negotiations to sign Timo Werner from Chelsea on a loan, who will demand that the deal be made permanent at the end of the season.
It remains to be seen how things go from here but it looks like Newcastle United are serious about signing the German international, after missing out on a number of their targets already.
Newcastle United are in advanced talks to sign Chelsea star
Werner had arrived at Chelsea with a lot of expectations. Just the season before that, he had scored 28 goals for RB Leipzig in a single Bundesliga campaign, more than Erling Haaland ever managed.
Thus, it is not hard to see why it was believed that Chelsea had pulled off a major coup. Unfortunately, things did not work out for Werner though and he has made a reputation for missing a number of chances in front of goal.
Thus, it is believed that the player is looking for a change of scenery this summer in order to rediscover his form. And it remains to be seen if Newcastle United are able to bring him to St James’ Park.
