Newcastle United have been linked with a wide number of players in recent times. The Magpies have done a very good job of soaring up their options in defence but the same cannot be said when it comes to their options up top. With the Premier League season fast approaching though, they will need to get some deals done quick.

While there have been a number of top players who have been linked with the Magpies, one player who has not really been is James Maddison. As a result, Newcastle United’s transfer bid for him must have come out of the blue for most fans.

As reported by Sky Sports, Leicester City have rejected a £40 million bid from Newcastle United for Maddison. They are believed to value him at a fee closer to £60 million.

It remains to be seen if Newcastle United end up upping their offer or not, but someone like Maddison could be an incredible signing for the Magpies.

For a player who has been linked with some of the biggest clubs in England on and off for years, it is a bit of a surprise that there has not seemed to be a lot of interest in Maddison’s signature this summer.

He is coming off of an incredible individual season. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Maddison scored 18 goals and provided 12 assists in 53 appearances for Leicester City across all competitions last season.

Also, although it has felt like Maddison has been around for a while, in fact, he is just 25 years of age and not even in his prime yet. As a result, there is plenty of room for him to get better.

Newcastle United’s interest in Maddison is great news. Now, it remains to be seen if they are able to sign him or not.
