It is no secret that Newcastle United are looking to add another striker to their ranks this summer. The Magpies saw both Callum Wilson and Chris Wood struggle in front of goal last season. If they are to improve upon their 2021/22 campaign though, the club will need someone who can find the back of the net on a regular basis.

Of course, many would point out that Wilson spent a long time out injured last season and never got a run in an in-form Newcastle United, and he could actually prove to be a good option. But at the same time, it would a major risk not to make an addition up front just on that theory.

It had looked like Newcastle United were closing in on a move for Hugo Ekitike earlier in the summer but that did not transpire and he has ended up at PSG instead. Players like Alexander Isak, Timo Werner, Armando Broja, Duvan Zapata and several others have been linked with the Magpies as well, but nothing has transpired till now.

Now, it looks like there are not a lot of options for Newcastle United, when it comes to the kind of striker they are looking to sign. As reported by GIVEMESPORT, Keith Downie said about the situation:

"“There are very few strikers out there available in the mould that they are looking for. I spoke to a few different agents and people involved in trying to do deals with strikers in this window and there are just so few out there.”"

Newcastle United might have to start the season with Wilson and Wood

With the start of the Premier League season just around the corner and no deal seeming to be close at the moment, it is very possible that the Magpies will start the season with the options that they have available at striker right now.

Of course, that might very well give Wilson and Wood another chance to show that they are good enough to be the main man up front for Newcastle United this season.

It remains to be seen how things turn out but it would be a major surprise if they don’t sign another striker.
