Newcastle United learn bargain fee they can sign Nicolas Pepe for
Nicolas Pepe is a name that has started to do the rounds of the Newcastle United rumour mill over the past few days. Rumours have suggested that the Magpies have been offered the chance to sign the Arsenal winger. Now, it remains to be seen if they will end up making a move or not.
Pepe had enjoyed a very good 2020/21 campaign and it had looked like he was starting to establish himself in the Arsenal starting XI. The club had shelled out a transfer fee in the region of £72 million to sign him.
But last season, he appeared to move down the pecking order significantly and barely featured. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 3 goals and provided 6 assists in 23 appearances for the club, spending just 951 minutes on the pitch.
Thus, those are not bad stats at all considering how much playing time he actually got last season but Arsenal seem to be ready to part ways with the winger.
Newcastle United could sign Pepe for bargain fee from Arsenal
As reported by the Mirror, Arsenal will be more than happy to let Pepe go if they get a transfer fee around £25 million in return.
As far as the modern football transfer market goes, that has to be considered as a bit of a bargain for a player with Pepe’s potential. While he has not been able to establish himself in the Arsenal starting XI, his stats for the club are not bad by any stretch of the imagination.
Pepe could actually be a pretty solid signing for a club like Newcastle United, where he would be more of a focal point of the team.
It remains to be seen if the Magpies do decide to make a move or not. Clubs like Leeds United, Marseille, Lyon and Sevilla are also believed to be considering a move though.
