Eddie Howe delivers exciting Newcastle United update
Most of the rumours surrounding Newcastle United in recent weeks and months have been about potential signings and understandably so. The club have already brought in Matt Targett, Sven Botman and Nick Pope on permanent deals, and if things go according to plan, more arrivals could be on the way soon.
There is one player who could be pretty much like a new signing for Newcastle United though and that is youngster, Elliot Anderson, who has been spectacular in pre-season.
He looked like the star of the show against Atalanta, as Newcastle United got a 1-0 win over the Italian side. And it looks like Anderson has caught the eye of Eddie Howe with his displays ahead of the upcoming campaign.
While a final decision has not been made about his future yet, as things stand, it looks like Anderson could be set to stay on at St James’ Park this season. As reported by Chronicle Live, when asked about the impressive youngster, Howe said:
"“It’s a very good question. I will sit here, and answer the questions but no decision will be made on a loan until the end of the window.“But as it stands it looks like he is going to stay. He did well for the penalty and could have scored.“In pre-season he has got better and better. I knew his quality and last year we couldn’t give him an opportunity. He came back a better player from Bristol Rovers.”"
Howe gives exciting update on Newcastle United youngster
It is safe to say that Anderson looks like the part. He has always been very highly rated while coming through the youth ranks at Newcastle United. He was a standout performer on loan at League Two side, Bristol Rovers, last season as well.
According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 8 goals and provided 5 assists in 21 appearances for Bristol Rovers last season.
Of course, one could argue that that was at the League Two level and the Premier League is going to be very different. But then, from what we have seen in pre-season, Anderson seems like someone who has a bright future at the club. He is also just 19 years of age and has plenty of time to develop further.
If he is not going to get enough playing time this season though, a loan move might potentially be the right step for him.
