Newcastle United were expected to make a major splash this summer and it started in that fashion as well. The club added Sven Botman from Lille, Nick Pope from Burnley and Matt Targett from Aston Villa on permanent deals. On top of that, they had signed Kieran Trippier and Dan Burn in January. Thus, going back, the Magpies should be solid. Arguably the best in the Premier League outside the traditional big six.

The same cannot be said going forward though, as Newcastle United have stumbled time after time in their attempts to sign strikers and wingers this summer.

Rumoured interest in players like Hugo Ekitike, Moussa Diaby, Alexander Isak, and several others, has led nowhere till now. It remains to be seen if things change anytime over the coming weeks.

As reported by 90min, Newcastle United have been offered a host of high profile players in recent weeks though, including Nicolas Pepe.

Pepe had enjoyed a great 2020/21 campaign with Arsenal and it had looked like he was starting to establish himself as one of their most important players. But then, things to an unexpected twist last season and he barely featured in Mikel Arteta’s team.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he made 23 appearances and played 951 minutes of football for Arsenal last season, scoring 3 goals and providing 6 assists in the process of doing so.

Considering the amount of time he was actually on the pitch, those are actually pretty good stats for a winger.

Thus, Newcastle United should definitely consider a potential move for Pepe, if everything works out in favour of a transfer to St James’ Park. At the moment, nothing appears to be advanced in any potential deal for the player but it remains to be seen how things transpire in the future.
