Newcastle United have been linked with a long list of players in recent times and now, it looks like they are eyeing a Brazilian wonderkid with a €60m release clause in his current deal. The player in question is Giovani of Palmeiras. It remains to be seen if they end up making a move for him or not though.

The Magpies came close to signing a wonderkid already this summer in the form of Hugo Ekitike, whose rise at Stade Reims had been compared to the one Karim Benzema had enjoyed at Lyon over a decade ago. Ultimately though, Newcastle United were unable to sign the French striker and he ended up at PSG.

Giovani currently plays for Brazilian club, Palmeiras, and has been a big standout for them at the youth level. And he could soon be set to get more opportunities at the senior level as well.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, the 18-year-old winger has made 19 appearances for Palmeiras till now, scoring and assisting once each.

Newcastle United have an eye on Brazilian wonderkid

As reported by ESPN, Palmeiras have already refused two offers from Ajax but the Dutch club continue to monitor his situation. They face competition from two clubs though in the form of Newcastle United and Bayer Leverkusen.

Just because Giovani has a release clause of around €60 million does not mean it will take a transfer fee in that region to sign him. In fact, while he has been great at the youth level, he has not done a lot at the senior level till now and as a result, the figure should not even be close to that.

But at the same time, one also has to consider that he is just 18 years of age and has plenty of time to find his feet at the senior level.
