Newcastle United and AC Milan have already been in a transfer race this summer and the Magpies were the ones who came out on top that time around. For months, it had looked like the Italian champions were the favourites to sign Sven Botman from Lille, but as the saga dragged on, Eddie Howe’s side managed to swoop in and get a deal over the line for the Dutch defender.

Now, it looks like Newcastle United could find themselves in a transfer race with AC Milan once again, as they appear to be chasing the signature of a Spanish international.

As reported by AS (via Sport Witness), AC Milan and Newcastle United are the ‘two teams most interested’ in Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio.

Asensio’s future at Real Madrid is up in the air at this point of time, with his current deal believed to run out next summer. Thus, it is very possible that he could end up departing Santiago Bernabeu over the coming weeks.

Newcastle United and AC Milan seem to be in the race to sign the Real Madrid star

When broke into the first-team, Asensio was considered as the next big thing at Real Madrid and expected to become one of the superstars of the club.

Things have not quite worked out like that for the Spanish international though, who has never managed to nail down a spot in the Real Madrid starting XI and has not even come close to fulfilling the incredible potential that he had shown early on in his career.

There is no doubt about his quality though and in fact, 2021/22 was one of his most productive seasons in a Real Madrid shirt. Also, he is still just 26 years of age. Thus, there is plenty of upside to a move for Asensio and if Newcastle United are able to sign him, it would be a major coup for them.
