As Newcastle United’s search for players for their forward areas continues, they continue to be linked with one player after another. After a potential move for Hugo Ekitike failed to transpire and he ended up at PSG instead, they have been linked with the likes of Alexander Isak of Real Sociedad, Armando Broja of Chelsea, Duvan Zapata of Atalanta, Victor Osimhen of Napoli, and several others.

Now, it looks like another name has been added to that quickly growing list. And that is the name of Chelsea’s Timo Werner.

The German international made a bright start to life at Chelsea but would soon lose his form and confidence. He has never quite recovered since then. As a result, he could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge this summer.

And as tweeted out by Christian Falk, Newcastle United are interested in Werner:

Would a move for Werner make sense for Newcastle United?

A move for Werner would be very risky for Newcastle United. After all, we have seen him struggle to adjust to the Premier League for the past couple of seasons now.

But at the same time, is it Werner or is it just how Chelsea play? He is not the first big name striker who has struggled at Stamford Bridge. We just saw a prime example with Romelu Lukaku.

Also, while fans might have forgotten but Werner was an a superstar during his time at RB Leipzig and even scored 28 goals in a single Bundesliga campaign before moving to Chelsea.

Even at Chelsea, it would be wrong to call him a complete transfer failure. He did play his part in their Champions League win in the 2020/21 season, and has even scored some big goals as well, including against Real Madrid in both seasons.

Thus, he knows his way to the back of the net. All he might need is his confidence back and for that to happen, he might need to leave Chelsea.
