Allan Saint-Maximin’s future at Newcastle United has been a topic of discussion for quite some time now. There is no doubt that the Frenchman is one of their best players when on top of his game. But at the same time, one cannot ignore the fact that he has been quite inconsistent with his performances, especially since the arrival of Eddie Howe as the manager of the club last season.

While Newcastle United did manage to improve a lot under the management of Howe, and climbed out of the relegation zone to finish 11th, Saint-Maximin did not prove to be a huge contributor in that.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 12 goals and provided 16 assists in 93 appearances for Newcastle United till now. While those are not bad stats for a winger, they are not excellent either.

While most of the suggestions have been that the club want to keep hold of Saint-Maximin, it looks like they are very open to letting him go as well. As reported by GIVEMESPORT, Dean Jones said about the situation surrounding the Frenchman at St James’ Park:

"“Saint-Maximin, Newcastle would drive him there, to be honest. I mean, they are looking for a buyer for Saint-Maximin, and if it was Chelsea, their eyes would light up and they would be very keen to get every penny they possibly could out of him.“I know Tottenham have been linked to Saint-Maximin, too. Newcastle don’t see him as part of their future project.”"

Surprising update on the future of Saint-Maximin at Newcastle United

On his day, Saint-Maximin is arguably the most skilful player that the Magpies have in their squad and he can be a handful for even the top clubs in the Premier League.

Unfortunately, he has not found a way to show that kind of form on a consistent basis and as a result, with clubs like Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur being linked with him, it does not look like the Magpies are against the idea of parting ways with him despite his obvious talent and ability.

If Saint-Maximin did end up leaving, Newcastle United will need to bring in a replacement. That is easier said than done though, as they have had a very difficult time looking for wingers this summer.
