Newcastle United have had a tough time getting deals over the line in recent weeks. They made a brilliant start to the transfer window by making Matt Targett’s loan move from Aston Villa permanent while also signing Sven Botman from Lille, after a long chase for the defender, and Nick Pope from Burnley, after the Clarets were relegated from the Premier League last season. Since then though, things have moved very slowly for the Magpies.

It is safe to say that the situation is far from ideal for Newcastle United. They will know that they need to improve going forward this summer, if they are to push for a top six spot this season.

One the areas that they appear to have their eyes on are the wings. Moussa Diaby was believed to be their top target for the summer, while names like Callum Hudson-Odoi, Jack Harrison and several others have also made the rounds of the rumour mill. But till now, no move has taken place.

One more interesting name that seems to be on Newcastle United’s radar is 21-year-old Everton winger, Anthony Gordon, and the Magpies have been handed a major boost in that race.

As reported by The Sun, Gordon’s camp are still trying to make the move happen and working overtime to find a figure that will suit both sides.

Everton will look for a huge transfer fee to part ways with the youngster though, who played a key part in keeping them up in the Premier League last season.

Thus, it won’t be easy for Newcastle United to get a deal done for him and could end up proving to be another failed transfer saga for them. The promising thing is though that there appears to be willingness on the part of the player to move to St James’ Park, which has not always been the case with the Magpies’ targets this summer.
