It was at Newcastle United that Gini Wijnaldum had gotten his big break in English football. He was there only a year though. After enjoying a very good individual campaign while with the Magpies, he got himself a move to Liverpool, where he played a big part in turning the Reds back into one of the biggest clubs in the country under the management of Jurgen Klopp.

After a very successful spell at Liverpool, the Dutch international would end up sealing a move to Paris Saint-Germain, but there, things have not quite gone his way.

As a result, it looks like he could be on his way out of the French capital soon. As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Paris Saint-Germain and Wijnaldum have decided to part ways this summer. The Ligue 1 champions are prepared to loan him out in the next days or weeks. AS Roma appear to be interested but have not made an official offer yet.

This does open up the opportunity for Newcastle United to strengthen their midfield though and bring back Wijnaldum to St James’ Park.

Newcastle United handed big chance to bring back Wijnaldum

Wijnaldum is 31 years of age now and is coming off of a season in which he was not particularly impressive.

But there is very little doubt about his quality and he was an important contributor for Liverpool just a few years back. Thus, someone like Wijnaldum could be a good addition for Newcastle United in more ways than one.

On one hand, he has incredible top level experience from his time at Liverpool and PSG. If Newcastle United want to compete for the European qualification spots with the big six, they will need players like that. At the same time, he is still good enough to make a contribution on the pitch as well.
