Newcastle United’s search for a striker this summer has been a frustrating one to say the least. We all know how things turned out in their chase for Hugo Ekitike, who has ended up joining Paris Saint-Germain. Rumours of an interest in Alexander Isak led nowhere either and it looked like the links with Armando Broja were headed in the same direction.

Broja’s future at Chelsea is pretty much up in the air. He spent the previous season on loan at Southampton and it looks like he is keen to play regular first-team football now, but does not want another temporary move from Stamford Bridge. It remains to be seen if the Blues allow him to leave, having already let Romelu Lukaku return to Inter Milan.

While Newcastle United had been rumoured as a possible destination for Broja, West Ham United had looked like the favourites for his signature.

But now, as tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, West Ham United are set to sign Gianluca Scamacca and a full agreement is in place with Sassuolo. A deal for Broja is off as of now.

Newcastle United handed transfer hope in race for Broja

So, it looks like West Ham United are no longer in the race to sign Broja from Chelsea this summer and that does clear up the path for Newcastle United, if they do want to make a move for the Albanian international.

Broja spent the previous season on loan at Southampton and while he did not score a ton of goals, he did showcase a lot of attributes and qualities, which could make him a future star in the Premier League.

Ultimately, it might all come down to Chelsea and what they want to do. The Blues do not have a real physical striker in their squad right now other than Broja and unless they sign another forward, it is hard to see them letting him leave this summer. But Newcastle United should certainly keep their eye on the situation.
