Newcastle United are in search of a striker right now and have had to face quite a few disappointments as well. The attempt to bring in Hugo Ekitike from Stade Reims did not work out and he ended up at Paris Saint-Germain instead. On the other hand, the rumoured interest in Alexander Isak lead nowhere.

One player who could very well be available this summer though is Timo Werner. The German has not had the easiest of times in England, even though he has Champions League and Club World Cup medals to show for it.

Werner joined Chelsea in the summer of 2020, when Frank Lampard was still the manager of the club. After a bright start, his form has faded away significantly and he is no longer a regular starter for the Blues.

While going after Werner, who has had his struggles in the Premier League, might be a left-field choice, there are a number of aspects that make the move attractive as well.

Newcastle United should consider making a move for Werner

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Werner scored 11 goals and provided 6 assists in 2215 minutes of football last season. That is not a bad return by any stretch of the imagination.

Also, there are a couple of standout aspects to his game. The first is his movement, which is brilliant. There is a reason why he finds himself in so many scoring positions. It is just that he is not taking those opportunities right now.

The second is his effort. Nobody can accuse Werner of not giving his best. He has always given his 100 per cent, whenever he has been on the pitch, it just has not worked out.

Werner knows his way to the back of the net though. He scored 28 goals in the Bundesliga the season before he arrived at Chelsea. At the moment, he just seems to be lacking a bit of confidence. If he can rediscover that at Newcastle United under the management of Eddie Howe, he could be a terrific signing for the Magpies.
