Newcastle United have faced a few struggles recently when it comes to getting deals over the line. They had been heavily linked with a move for Hugo Ekitike, but he has ended up joining Paris Saint-Germain instead. Rumoured interest in players like Moussa Diaby, Alexander Isak and a few others has also led the Magpies nowhere.

They are not expected to stop though, as Newcastle United are expected to be looking to improve upon their 11th place finish from last season. And while their defence looks very strong right now, the other departments could need a bit more work.

Carney Chukwuemeka is a player who could be on the move this summer, with his current deal with Aston Villa running out in a year. He has been linked with a number of clubs with rumours suggesting that Barcelona are leading the race for the 20-year-old’s signature. It looks like Newcastle United could be in the race as well though.

As reported by GIVEMESPORT, Dean Jones said about the Chukwuemeka situation:

"“It doesn’t help that Barcelona are the top club interested because at the moment, you just assume that everyone is just going to sign for them.“But if he doesn’t, then a club like Newcastle, who have got such an ambitious project, is probably exciting for him and might be the platform that he is looking for. So, I can believe that they will be in that race.”"

Chukwuemeka is only 18 years of age but he has shown a lot of potential already and could be a major star in the future.

Thus, it is not hard to see why there is so much interest in his signature and why Aston Villa are hoping to get a £20 million transfer fee for him, despite the fact that he has only a year left on his current deal with the Birmingham club.

If Newcastle United are able to sign him, it would be a major boost for the club. But at the same time, it is pretty clear that the race for the youngster’s signature is going to be very tough, with a club like Barcelona appearing to be in the lead right now.
