Newcastle United have already had a very eventful summer transfer window, as most people would have expected them to do. The club had been linked with a variety of names over the course of the past several months and have done a wonderful job when it comes to strengthening their defence. Not only did they turn Matt Targett’s loan deal permanent, but also completed the signings of Nick Pope and Sven Botman.

Botman’s signing was a particular boost for Newcastle United. They had been linked with him since January. It had looked like he was headed for AC Milan this summer, but the Magpies managed to swoop in and get the deal done.

Newcastle United are not expected to stop here though and could make a number of further additions to their squad, as they look to improve upon their 11th place Premier League finish from last season.

Their next priority seems to be bringing in a striker. As reported by GIVEMESPORT, Fabrizio Romano said about the situation surrounding Newcastle United:

"“I think signing a striker is the priority for them right now.“After Sven Botman – who has been a top deal in defence – the priority will be for a striker, but they want to find the right one.”"

Newcastle United do need to bring in another striker this summer. They saw Chris Wood and Callum Wilson struggle to find the back of the net last season. The Magpies will need a consistent goalscorer though, if they are to compete with the traditional big six and potentially challenge for European qualification spots in the near future.

Their chase for a striker has not gone smoothly till now though. It had looked like they were closing in on a move for Hugo Ekitike but that fell through and the Frenchman has joined Paris Saint-Germain instead.

Rumoured interest in Alexander Isak of Real Sociedad also led nowhere while West Ham United look like the favourites to sign Armando Broja, if he does leave Chelsea this summer.
