Newcastle United’s chase for a striker has been a point of frustration for the fans in recent times. The club had appeared to be closing in on a move for Hugo Ekitike. The player had enjoyed a brilliant season with Stade Reims and some had even compared his breakout campaign to that of Karim Benzema at Lyon. Thus, he could have proven to be a major coup for The Magpies. But it failed to materialise and the Frenchman has joined PSG instead.
On the other hand, Newcastle United appear to have had to drop their interest in Alexander Isak as well as some rumours have suggested that Real Sociedad will only let him go if a club meet his massive release clause.
Ekitike’s move to PSG might have potentially opened up a door for Newcastle United to go ahead and make a move for one of their strikers.
As reported by 90min, a number of Premier League clubs, including Newcastle United, Everton, Crystal Palace and Brighton & Hove Albion, have been contacted in regards to Arnaud Kalimuendo, who is being chased by Leeds United. Also, the young striker has managed to impress new manager Christophe Galtier in pre-season and the Peacocks are being made to wait as a result.
Newcastle United have chance to sign PSG striker
With Ekitike joining PSG, could Newcastle United end up making a move for one of the French giants’ strikers instead? That is the big question now and it remains to be seen if they do.
It was believed that PSG were ready to let Kalimuendo leave for a transfer fee around £20 million. But now after having caught the eye of Galtier in pre-season, it looks like the manager will take a closer look at the 20-year-old before deciding his future.
Kalimuendo was very highly rated while coming through the youth ranks at PSG but has not managed to make his mark for their first-team yet. He did have a solid season at RC Lens in the previous campaign though.
According to stats from Transfermarkt, Kalimuendo scored 12 goals in 32 Ligue 1 appearances for RC Lens last season.
