Newcastle United can sign long-time target for £34 million fee
After a bright start to the summer transfer window which saw them sign Nick Pope, Sven Botman and Matt Targett on permanent deals, Newcastle United have struggled a bit in getting deals over the line. They were handed a major blow when a move for Hugo Ekitike failed to transpire and the Frenchman has joined PSG instead. Rumoured interest in Moussa Diaby and Alexander Isak has also lead nowhere.
There appears to be finally some positive news for the Magpies though, but they might have to be quick if they are to get a deal done.
Lucas Paqueta of Lyon is someone who Newcastle United had been linked with heavily in recent months but it was believed that it would take a transfer fee around £55 million to sign him. But now, that no longer looks to be the case.
As reported by Media Foot (via The Sun), Lyon are now prepared to accept a £34 million (€40 million) transfer fee for Paqueta.
Newcastle United have a massive chance to sign Paqueta
A transfer fee around £34 million would have to be considered as a bargain for a player of Paqueta’s quality. Not only has he been a standout for Lyon in Ligue 1 but he is also a regular member of the Brazil national side as well.
Newcastle United have already signed one Brazilian international star from Lyon in the form of Bruno Guimaraes and now, it remains to be seen if they are able to reunite him with Paqueta at St James’ Park.
The competition for Paqueta’s signature is going to be tough though with Arsenal also believed to be very keen on him.
Rumours have suggested that Paqueta is leaning towards leaving Lyon this summer and the Premier League is his most likely destination. Now, it remains to be seen if Newcastle United do end up making a move for him or not.
