It is no secret that Newcastle United are in need of signing a striker this summer. The club already have Callum Wilson and Chris Wood in their ranks but neither of them has been able to find the back of the net on a consistent basis. Yet, the Magpies have been frustrated in their chase for a goalscorer till now.

A move for Hugo Ekitike had appeared to be on the verge of happening before it failed to transpire and the French striker has joined PSG instead. On the other hand, the Magpies were linked with Alexander Isak as well but it is believed that Real Sociedad would look for his massive release clause to be triggered to part ways with the Swede.

Thus, Newcastle United need to turn their eyes elsewhere and there is one proven goalscorer, who they could sign on a free transfer this summer.

That man is none other than Andrea Belotti, who has left Torino this summer and is a free agent. He has been heavily linked with a move to AS Roma recently but Newcastle United should throw their hat into the ring as well.

Newcastle United should make move for the Italy international

Belotti might not be coming off of his most prolific campaign but he has always been a consistent goalscorer over the years.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 113 goals in 251 appearances for Torino across all competitions. One also must remember that they were not always the strongest of teams either.

Belotti is also a Italian international and was part of the team that won UEFA EURO 2020 last summer. He is also just 28 years of age and in the middle of his prime. At one point of time, he was rated at a transfer fee around €100 million but is available on a free this summer.

While a move for Belotti might not be a headline grabber in 2022, it would make the world of sense for Newcastle United.
