The next thing that Newcastle United need to do this summer is sign a striker. Neither Callum Wilson nor Chris Wood were able to score on a consistent basis last season and it is safe to say that the Magpies will need someone to do that if they are to improve upon their 11th place finish in the Premier League.

The club have been linked with a long list of names in this regard but nothing has come to fruition till now.

It had looked like Newcastle United had managed to agree a deal for Hugo Ekitike but that move failed to materialise and he has joined Paris Saint-Germain instead. On the other hand, the Magpies were not ready to pay the release clause of Alexander Isak to bring him to St James’ Park.

Recently, another player who has appeared to have been on their radar is Armando Broja of Chelsea and it had looked like their chances had been handed a boost when the striker flew back from The Blues’ USA tour. But now, West Ham United seem to be leading the race for his signature.

West Ham United could hand Broja blow to Newcastle United

As reported by Sky Sports, West Ham United are in advanced talks to sign Chelsea forward Broja. The Hammers have proposed a deal worth £30 million.

Broja spent the previous campaign on loan at Southampton and while he did not score a lot of goals, he did show a lot of attributes which suggested that he could be a star in the Premier League in the future.

As a result, it looks like West Ham United are ready to make a big move to sign the striker, with him looking keen to depart Chelsea this summer, and it looks like Newcastle United’s search will continue for the time being.
